All around the world tech-startups are coming up with innovative new ideas to help contain the pandemic. In Senegal, e-health startup SenVitale is doing its bit to support the government and health services doing what they do best: bridging the gap between the medical field and IT.

Dakar is a bustling city full of energy, and a fertile breeding ground for new ideas and people who want to get things done. Two of these talented young entrepreneurs are Ben Diop and Nafissatou Diouf, founders of e-health startup SenVitale and part of the Orange Corners programme. Their main product? A universal ‘health passport’ which enables health professionals to access medical data through QR codes.

Prev Covid 19 platform

When corona reached Senegal, SenVitale was in an excellent position to support the government in the fight against the virus. Using all resources at their disposal, Diop and Diouf launched a corona information and awareness platform, in cooperation with another tech-startup, Defar Soft.

Using the Prev Covid 19 platform, visitors can take corona self-assessment tests which take into consideration their symptoms and medical history. The platform then offers guidance on how to deal with the coronavirus, to make sure the national health services do not become overloaded.

Within two months, the new platform reached 100,000 users. This number of users means not only is the platform a remarkable success, the amount of data collected is also useful in predicting where in the country future corona epicenters might emerge.

Playing your part

SenVitale is happy to contribute to Senegal’s response to the crisis. Ben Diop: “We looked at our resources and decided we had to play our part in this pandemic. The platform connects citizens with health institutes, startups with governments. That is exactly how we should approach this crisis: together.”
