Between October and December 2020, representatives from Southeast Asia and the Netherlands will gather online to discuss how our countries can join forces to tackle societal challenges and secure a sustainable future for all. This virtual mission to Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam will focus on three sectors: agrifood, water and waste management.

Sigrid Kaag, Dutch Minister of Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, will kick off the mission on October 12, followed by webinars, information sessions and individual networking and match-making sessions that will continue until mid-December. Regional fairs on circular economy (IGEM) and water (ASIA Water) are also part of the programme.

Solving global challenges together

With more and more people using the limited resources available, we are putting the planet under increasing pressure. To feed, clothe and house a growing world population, we need to rethink the way we use scarce resources such as food, water, and raw materials as efficiently as possible. We need to be smarter, more innovative, and more sustainable. And to maximise impact, we need to work together.

The virtual mission allows Dutch and Southeast Asian minds to continue to connect and explore chances to address global challenges in:

  • Agri & food production and technology,
  • Water management and technology,
  • Waste management and circular design.

Ultimately, the mission aims to strengthen ties between the Netherlands and Southeast Asia, by offering interested parties a digital environment to meet, exchange knowledge and ideas and build international networks in spite of the corona crisis.

Over 110 companies and organisations have already registered for the mission, of which approximately half are Dutch, and half are from Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand or Vietnam. Interested in participating? You can still register until October 8th via b2match.

Moving forwards together

To take part in the mission is to enter the virtual orange greenhouse, where forward-thinking minds can meet like-minded partners to continue shaping a more sustainable world together. The open and transparent collaboration space is a place where we can discuss the challenges of tomorrow. Because issues like extremely hot summers, unusually large forest fires, and plastic soup in our oceans affect and concern us all.

This mission falls under the overarching Dutch campaign “Moving forwards together”. As a small country, the Netherlands is always looking to team up with like-minded partners to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. Through close cooperation between governments, companies and research institutions we will be able to make significant steps, become more resilient and united in weathering future challenges.
